Sewing 101: Tools of The Trade (Basic)

We often hear the tagline “Get the right man for the right job”; this line states that to get the best results for a certain task, you have to get the best person to fulfill the task. Sewing can’t be any different, in this creative craft, one must gather the essential tools and materials to be able to produce that perfect end product that one has conceptualized, or envisioned.

The cardinal equipment and materials will be tackled in this article. Viewing it from a beginner’s perspective, and explaining its purpose for the whole creative process of sewing.

Like the basic first aid kit we are familiar with, sewing has its counterpart kit, aptly called “Hand Sewing Kit.” It consists of a pair of scissors, needles, and a small variety of multicolored sewing threads. Theses 3 things could give anyone a jump-start in the craft of sewing.

Scissors / Shears:
Is a tool that no tailor, or sewing enthusiast must be without. It is very important for trimming textiles, cutting threads to preferred lengths, and adjusting any pattern that needs to be.

Needles:
The very essence of sewing is represented by needles, without needles sewing wouldn’t be in existence at all. Needles are used to allow the thread to penetrate textiles. Needles are also used to follow any pattern that is provided or used.

Threads:
A very small yet crucial part of sewing. Threads are the actual binders of textiles and fabrics. Threads are even used to create wonderful designs and patterns on any bland cloth.

The other essentials of sewing will be discussed in the succeeding articles. Going through its details, kinds, and uses. Regardless, the whole sewing process is supplemented by having these 3 cardinal materials.
